Important Things to Remember about Cleaning Your Screens

It is a fairly simple process, and we trust that it is something you can take care of yourself. However, we do offer window screen cleaning as part of our services.

If you are going to clean your window screens yourself, here are a few important notes to keep in mind.

Remember Which Screen Came From Which Window

In most cases, it will be pretty easy to remember which screen came from which window, especially if they are different sizes. But, remember that the materials from your screens and your windows may have molded well to each other, and mixing up the same sized screen with different windows could create small discrepancies in the screen’s fit with the frame.

Use an Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Solution

At Halifax Window Cleaning, we try to be as environmentally conscious as possible. It is important to use a screen cleaning solution that is friendly to the environment, and to your screen’s material. In most cases, a regular dish soap, or a bucket with vinegar and water will do the trick. You don’t need to get fancy with it, as long as it gets the job done.

Use a Soft Bristled Brush

A hard bristled brush may damage your screen, so make sure to use a soft-bristled brush, or you can use a sponge. Depending on the size of the holes in the screen, you may want to keep in mind that a sponge may take a bit of a beating during the screen cleaning process.

Don’t Be Afraid To Give Them A Soak

If your screens are really dirty and they need extensive cleaning done, then throwing them in a tub or a large enough bucket will help lift off some of that persistent grime that may be stuck to them.

You Could Also Use A Pressure Washer

Pressure washing the screens is another super convenient way to clean off unwanted grime. Make sure that your pressure washer settings are not too high to damage the screen. Or, give it a little more space between you and the screen before you blast away.

Make Sure The Window Screens Are Completely Dry Before Reinstalling Them

If you pop the window screens back in the frame right away, you may get some moisture in areas in your home. That would be a non-ideal situation so make sure you give them enough time to dry.

Clean Your Screens On A Nice Hot Day

The job will be a lot more enjoyable for you if you do your chores on a nicer day. Plus, the screens will dry quicker and you can pop them back in the frame sooner than you would if it was a cold or humid day.
